MOTHER'S DAY

Yes, I know it's kind of late to blog about Mother's Day celebration but it can't be helped. I super duper lazy to blog on all the happenings around me and there's tons of backlogs waiting for me to blog about. Sigh........okay, maybe I will try to start s l o w .........

This year celebration is rather unique as we settled for brunch celebration instead of the usual Chinese dinner at some posh restaurants. I went online to research for some good review brunch places around Bukit Timah area. Initially, I almost made reservations with CafĂ© Epicurious but thank god, no one picked up the phone. They seems to have good review on their brunch menu but I'm seriously turned off by their serving plates which looks kind of unglam to me and their food portion  seems unable to fill up my stomach to 85% full. I quickly went to search for another alternative and came across Choupinette. I've seen quite a number of good reviews on this brunch place as well. They are quite famous for poached eggs such as eggs benedict etc. As this is quite a last minute thingy, thankfully I managed to reserved a table for six at 1pm.

Although I arrived there 10 minutes earlier, no seats are available for us and we have to wait like 30 to 40 minutes until we get our table. ermmmmm but I made a reservation right?? I was even informed by the staff that they can only hold our table for 10 minutes and all six persons must be present if not, I will have to pay for the shortfall!

The wait begins...

Finally seated after a long wait...

I ordered the big breakkie set with fried egg as this is my all time favourite and I love sunny side-up. But the eggs didn't turn out well, it has a rubbery fishcake taste and the yolks are slightly cooked. A true spoiler.....what's a big breakkie with failed sunny side-up and no baked beans?!? My big breakkie cost around S$24++ which includes a free juice and a hot drink. While David ordered eggs benedict which can't really fill up his hungry stomach.

We ended the brunch with desserts. The strawberry tart was so so and I still feel Paul's strawberry tart is the best. The cream puff on the other hand was rather refreshing with a strong vanilla flavour.

The total bill came up to S$$180++ for six people. Overall, I quite like the ambience but I feel the food portion is too small to fill those hungry stomachs. The food is not that fantastic as well.  Customer service was so-so only and all the waiter and waitress are not locals. The waitress was quite attitude with a stuck up face. And the place is super small which can only accommodate up to ten small tables! This will be my first and last time to Choupinette.

BEWARE OF BROKEN CONTROLLERS DOT COM

My blog post on dim sum was ''hijacked'' by broken controllers!!

I discovered it shortly after I published my post, where I did a search of my topic in  yahoo and google search engine. To my alarm, there is this webby "broken controllers" showing partial of my blog post and a link to my blog. I find it so weird and I did a search of this "broken controllers" and found that it actually 'steals your blog post' and redirect all the search engine hits to its webby and from there, it provides the link to your blog. There're many bloggers who faced this situation as well and what surprised me most was, BlogSpot seems to be their favourite place.

I managed to find this blog post and followed the instructions stated, requesting broken controllers to remove my link and post in their webby. Please email to: whadu@brokencontrollers.com. I practically copied the whole chuck of wordings from this blog. I actually emailed them twice before getting a response from them saying that my link has been removed from the webby. I did a check to ensure it has been removed by going to yahoo search engine(as this is where I found the link from broken controllers) and type in my post title. Going through the search results, you will see a link ''brokencontrollers.com/your blog name and post title". Click on it and it should direct you to the page where they took the post from your blog. If successfully removed by the admin, it will indicate "the post does not exist".  So if you were to encounter this and came across my blog, please follow exactly the same and your link and post will be removed from broken controllers.

DIM SUM IN THE WEST

Hi I'm back! I've been quite tied up with work and my personal stuff that I got no time to blog....okie I admit that partly it's due to my laziness as well.

Since this is my first post in 2013, I will start off with a food entry which I feel it is one of the hidden gem in west Singapore! I've been to this restaurant for a couple of times with David and we were there for brunch yesterday. And here I shall present to you, Sun Lok Noodle House!

Dim Sum

This is a Cantonese restaurant where it sells dim sums. Although they do not have a wide spread of dim sum available but they have the usual har kau, siew mai, fried dumplings, glutinous rice in lotus leaf, xiao long bao and so on. Other than dim sum, they do have noodles such as beef brisket noodles, congee, roasted pork or duck with rice and many more.

We ordered beef congee and century egg with pork congee. Their congee is superb, with a nice gluey texture.

Next on is the crispy fried beancurd skin with prawn and lean meat, followed by har kau(the prawns are very fresh).

Not forgetting the all time favourite, glutinous rice wrap in lotus leaf. Unlike some places, their glutinous rice is well-cooked till soft. With that little piece of salted egg yolk, makes it perfect!
Last but not least, how can we not order the xiao long bao. Seriously, you must try their Xiao long bao. I'm not kidding you. Their xiao long bao's soup is different from other branded restaurants! Both of us agreed that their xiao long bao will not lose out to Ding Tai Feng's. Just look at that spoonful of soup slurp!!

No reservations required. And their dim sum is available even around 2pm hence you need not wake up early during weekends just to enjoy good dim sum!

XMAS PARTY

Attended a xmas party last Sunday. The party was not meant for humans rather, it was a party for the doggies - Dachshund!  The party was organised by Singapore Dachies, where dachshund owners gather together.

The party was held at one of the member's condo where we had BBQ and even gift exchange for the doggies.  It was quite an interesting party as we had many new members joining in that day.

Here are some of the photos taken that day but not much as i'm too amazed with the condo and busy munching on food =p

And here's my mini long hair dachshund, Miso. Please don't be deceived by this innocent look. He is a naughty little rascal. This shot was taken at Petopia where he won the contest and was given a free makeover...ermm it should be full grooming and studio shoot on the same day. As you noticed, they even dyed a little patch of his fur purple. I was very against it initially as hair coloring is very harmful with all the chemicals etc but they assured me the dye is very safe as it is made from vegetable coloring and will eventually fade off after few washes(which it really did!).

This shot was taken at Gardens by the Bay, where it was the first ever dachies outing with the most members turning up, at more than 30 members and 40 dachies! And we are even featured in Pets Magazine(cover page featuring xiaxue and her bunny)!!

Here's another random shot of him in the carrier bag, on the way to vet. He looks like an old man who went through a lot and full of thoughts lolz.....

TORY BURCH & TOD'S

As mentioned in the first post, David got me a Bottega wallet for my birthday. From what i know,  he bought the wallet long ago and hid it somewhere in the house. Since it was meant to be my birthday pressie, it should only be given to me recently but, he was afraid that the leather may turn moldy as it did happened to his colleagues but not Bottega brand lah. So he gave it to me around August. I did not expect to receive any xmas pressie from him. But he surprised me with a Tory Burch bag on Thursday night.

When i saw the gift wrap, i was like shit.....cause i didn't really like their bags when i visited their store earlier this month. I even told him that the bags there are more suitable for matured ladies. But as expected, he already bought the bag last month when i was away at Bangkok. Think he was sweating that day when i went into the store and came out with such comments lolz. Anyway, i will still give him face and use the bag okie...which i did. I started using the bag the very next day when we went down town. I think it won't be long for me to get used to the bag. And you wouldn't imagine a bag like this is already very heavy on its own, without any wallet or whatsoever in it. We later decided that the culprit is the logo. If you were to lift up the logo flap, you can feel its weight! One thing i like about this bag is, it can be a handbag or sling bag depending on your mood.

I also got a D-styling Tod's bag as my birthday cum xmas pressie. Glad that i did not purchase the bag during the taka member sale as the sales associate who served me is not professional at all and it reflects badly on the brand imagine. I was telling David, the kind of professional service we received at Bottega(taka) cannot be compared to Tod's. It is really a bad experience encountered with them for two days!! Luckily Reebonz had the Tod's bag that i wanted and was selling at $700 less than the one in the boutique!!!!!!! Although the color they had was not the one which i nearly purchased at the boutique but it' alright as i also like the green color. So i placed the order on  Monday and the bag was delivered on Saturday within the same week! And i must say Reebonz had put in a lot of effort for those orders placed and to be delivered out during the festive season. I was so amazed when i received the parcel. (Sorry for being such a mountain tortoise as this is the first time i bought a branded bag on my own) The bag was placed nicely in the dust bag, wrapped by a black color wrapper and was placed in a black color box together with a Christmas card and Gingy and lastly, the box was tied with a white colored ribbon with golden embroidery words on it ''Reebonz.com  Merry Christmas''. I was like OMG.....this is just too pretty!!!!

And i also randomly got a Fred Perry slingbag during one of the weekends at Takashimaya. Fred Perry was having 20% discount and i quite like the bag as it should be big enough to contain my Bottega wallet which my Mango slingbag can't. But i find it quite expensive given the bag was not real leather.

For those who wanted to own a branded bag or wallet, you may want to visit www.reebonz.com. Reebonz is an online store which sells genuine branded goods and is very established and well-known in Singapore. I didn't believe it until i went to their storewide sale held at Suntec exhibition hall few years back. And man, the queue to get in is damn long where you need to wait at least an hour. A plus point from buying from Reebonz is, apart the lower prices, you can opt to pay by credit card installment.

BIRTHDAY

Yesterday was my birthday and i had a wonderful time with my loved ones and also thanks to those friends who celebrated in advance with me.

Last weekend I went over to Shijia's place for Christmas party. It's also a house warming cum gathering. And I never expected them to remember my birthday and it really surprised me when they brought out a cake and sang happy birthday song...sobz sobz im really so touched. They got me a birthday card, presents and a cake. Sigh...didn't managed to take some shots of the party and cake as I was in a shock.

Here's the ladies group. They are all my best friends cum ex-colleagues. Really had a great time whenever I'm out with them.

As for the guys.....we didn't managed to snap any photos of them or even a group photo of everyone... And here's the pressies i got for birthday and xmas!!

David brought me to Dempsey on Friday and treated me dinner. We didn't order much as both of us are not big eaters anymore. We only ordered a soup, chicken wings and pizza to share and i am already full when i finished half pot of the soup and a wing!! Sorry for the noisy pics -_-''

After dinner, we went to get a cake at Grand Copthorne. And this year the Christmas decoration is so pretty!! A xmas log cake house!

Here's my mini cheesecake topped with strawberries love it!!!

On Friday, we headed down to Orchard to continue my birthday celebration. And yes, my birthday celebration normally last for two to three days beginning with eve, actual and post lolz. Had light lunch at Flam's - one of our latest food discovery. Its specialty is french pizza where the pizza crust is very uniquely thin like 'wanton skin' and the chef will spread this special white cream over the 'wanton skin' then top it up with onions, bacons, mushrooms and cheese. Bake for 6 minutes and this is what you get......

Flam's

We ordered two flams and a beer. The other was goat cheese with honey. Both equally delicious!

It's shopping time! Didn't really buy much as i already spend quite a far bit in this month at taka sale, pedro, reebonz and air tickets. But i was really lucky that day as H&M is having sale!! And i managed to get the two sweaters which i eyed on earlier this month at a cheap price.

Was in Orchard for about three hours and it's dinner time. No choice as we arrived Orchard in the late afternoon so we can't get to shop much. Had dinner with my family and i brought them to this German restaurant near Duxton area where, both of us like the food and beer over there.

For appetizers, we ordered spicy goulash beef soup and sausage platter; pig trotters, lamb shank and roasted goose as mains, ending with two hot brownie cakes. My family are all small eaters hence we did not order a main for everyone but rather, we share the dishes and trust me, the five of us are damn full that we didn't even order a second glass of beer...

Here's some random pictures of my dad and mum. You wouldn't get to see my sis as she's the one busy taking all these photos.

I know the pig trotter and all looked rather small in the picture below but in actual fact, the portion is quite huge...well okie, except the brownie cake. Must order the roasted goose which is only available during Christmas season. The skin is roasted till very crispy just like the pig trotters!!! OMG and the lamb shank is superb as well!!!
